Harbour and new lighthouse
The pleasantly revamped harbour area is a very popular place for walking. The new 16 metre high lighthouse offers magnificent views of Alanya and its harbour from its balcony, and it is open to the public.
Marina
The new Alanya Marina is under construction, and is already partly open. Facilities will include 287 berths, a 100 ton hoist, a shopping centre, a swimming pool, tennis courts, a fitness centre, and ATMs.
Landscaping
Major improvements are being made, with a focus on improving accessibility for the disabled and for cyclists.
Deputy Prime Minister’s visit
The 10th annual International Alanya Tourism and arts Festival was opened by Bülent Arınç, Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister, on 30 May 2010.
The World Union of Cities with Castles
Alanya Municipality was accepted into membership on 12 October 2009. The union has 140 members, from 26 countries.
Silver Key presented to cruise line boss
The Silver Key of Alanya was presented to Mr Moshe Mano, President & CEO of Mano Maritime, whose cruise ships started visiting Alanya in 1998, in a ceremony on board Royal Iris on 9 October 2009. Mano ships brought more than 100,000 passengers to Alanya in ten years, a quarter of Alanya’s Israeli cruise passengers in that period. Mr Mano thanked his hosts, invited them on a cruise to Haifa and presented an original oil painting to the town. The painting by a famous Israeli artist, depicting two Mano ships moored together in Alanya, now hangs in Alanya Town Hall.
UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List
Alanya Castle, Alanya Dockyard and The Red Tower were added to the list in 2009. Research to determine the ecological and biological diversity of the area has begun. There is particular interest in the butterflies. Alarahan Caravanserai was also added to the list.
Plans for a Marine and Shipping Museum
This new tourist attraction, part of the Alanya Castle Protection and Development Plan, would be near Alanya Dockyard and Arsenal.
